Let’s get together for Hedgehogs!

Did you know? Hedgehogs travel around one mile every night to find enough food/a mate!

Pimperne is lucky to have a number of hogs. As you may have heard, the hedgehog is suffering dramatic decline across the UK. Hogs contribute to a healthy ecosystem, but luckily there is plenty that we can all do to help them thrive (and these tips benefit other wildlife too). For example, please use alternatives to pesticides and slug pellets; grow wildlife-friendly plants; create/keep access routes open. If you choose to feed visiting hogs, offer cat or dog food, not bread, milk, sunflower seeds or mealworms.*

We have offered to act as co-ordinators for Pimperne with the Dorset Mammal Group (the Group aims to develop towns and villages into hedgehog-friendly habitats). By joining their project we can learn how best to help and maintain our hedgehog population here in Pimperne. We plan to put on a talk at the village hall in the Autumn, so please look out for posters!
